It's May!

It’s May! The 5th month of the year, named after Maia the Roman Goddess of fertility. It’s the month of Mayflies and Emeralds and the Eta Aquariid meteor shower according to Wikipedia. Plus, this May we get an extra bank holiday (cheers Charles) giving us a grand total of 3 more days off to chill in the sun, hopefully. Or more likely, 3 more evenings serving merry bank holiday drinkers making the most of a boozy Sunday.

But what’s on this month? Bristol is absolutely buzzing with mini festivals. It’s one of our favourite things about our fine city. As soon as Spring has sprung, Bristol comes alive with events, many of them free. This year is no exception, there’s something for (almost) everyone. There’s a Crime Fest for those often found with their nose in a thriller, boasting an impressive line-up of Authors over 50 panels. A Walking Festival throughout the month, back for its 11th year, hoping to encourage those to take a path less travelled or explore the cities heritage sites and art. The infamous Foodies Festival returns but to a new venue. This year you’ll find it at Stoke Park between the 12th-14th of May. But as with previous years it will be jam packed with stalls to peruse, bands to enjoy and of course cooking demonstrations from Chefs both famous within the city and some off the tele. If you head to Broadmead on any of the last three May weekends, look out for the Invisible Circus Street performers, turning the space into their stage for Weekends of Wonder. If It’s music you’re after, the last weekend of May has you covered. The harbourside will be humming with up-and-coming acts proving why Dot to Dot Festival was shortlisted for Best Metropolitan Festival. Lastly but not leastly, we can’t talk Bristol Festivals without giving Loves Saves the Day a shoutout. Throughout the last weekend in May at Ashton Court. Featuring a variety of acts, spanning from pop super-group The Sugar Babes to the mellow techno vibes of Four Tet and everything in between.

But what to drink during all these exciting events? Never fear, May has you covered on that account too.
